Growing Coriander, Methi and Curry Leaf in Canada
Fresh herbs make a big difference in Indian cooking. Many are easy to grow here, even with a short summer.
Coriander (dhania)
Sow directly in a cool spot, and sow again every few weeks, because it runs to seed quickly in heat.
Methi (fenugreek)
It grows fast from seed in pots or garden beds. Cut young leaves for cooking.
Mint (pudina)
Keep it in a pot, because it spreads quickly. It often comes back after winter.
Curry leaf (kadi patta)
This tropical plant cannot survive a Canadian winter outdoors. Grow it in a pot, keep it in a sunny spot, and bring it inside before the first frost.
Green chilies
Start indoors early, then move outside once nights are warm. They love the sunniest place you have.
